Both plans come with a validity of 28 days. In both plans, the speed will be curtailed to 64 Kbps once the high-speed quota is exhausted. The company has also announced cashback offers on all its tariff plans of Rs 399 and above.
Launch of Jio Rs 199 Plan:
Jio Rs 199 plan was first introduced by the company for the Redmi 5A users. Jio had also announced cashback of up to Rs 1000 for eligible subscribers. Xiaomi's new entry-level smartphone Redmi 5A is selling at a price of Rs 4,999. The smartphone is Flipkart exclusive also available at Mi.com. However, with the launch of Jio Happy new year offer, the prepaid tariff plan is now available for all prime users of the company.
Reliance Jio plans for Prepaid Subscribers:
Reliance Jio also has a Rs 149 plan for prime users providing 4GB data for 28 days. Thereby providing more choice to subscribers. Currently, the Rs 399 plan is most popular among Reliance Jio subscribers providing them with a validity of 70 days and a bunch of benefits. However, the telecom operator had reduced the validity of the plan to 70 days from 84 days. There is a separate Rs 459 plan providing validity of 84 days. In comparison, Airtel offers 70 days of validity with its Rs 448 plan. Vodafone offers identical benefits with its Rs 458 plan for prepaid subscribers.
Meanwhile, the prepaid tariff plans of Reliance Jio range from Rs 19 to Rs 9999. The Rs 19 plan provides validity of 1 day while Rs 9999 plan comes with a validity of 360 days.
Comparison with rivals Airtel and Vodafone
Incumbents Airtel, Idea and Vodafone also have prepaid plans rolled out in the price segment. Airtel offers almost similar benefits with its Rs 199 plan. Vodafone also has Rs 198 recharge plan for its prepaid customers. Vodafone plan offers unlimited local, STD, and roaming calls, there is also 100 SMS/day and 1GB 4G/3G data per day.
Airtel Rs 199 plan provides unlimited local & STD calls, unlimited incoming and outgoing calls on roaming, 100 SMS/day, and 1GB 3G/4G data per day. There is very little to choose for customers as all plans provide almost identical benefits, there is no major difference that we can spot. Even the validity is same at 28 days making the choice tougher.
The entrance of Reliance Jio has added lots of turbulence in the telecom sector as operators continue to introduce new plans. Major telecom operators have tried everything to match the low-cost tariff plans of Jio. And it seems ongoing price war between Jio and rival companies will continue in the future as well.
